피아니스트 이루마 <한국 연주 음악의 새로운 장을 열다> 한국 뉴에이지 피아니즘의 감성미학을 새롭게 탄생시킨 이루마. 심플한 선율에 섬세한 감정의 흐름을 실어내는 그의 연주에는 감미로운 멜로디만큼이나 따뜻한 그의 감성이 스며들어 있다. 이루마는 5세부터 피아노를 배우기 시작. 11세에 영국 유학길에 올라 유럽 음악 영재의 산실 ‘퍼셀 스쿨’을 졸업. 이후 한국인 최초로 런던대 킹스컬리지에 입학하여 현대음악의 거장 해리슨 버트 위슬에게 사사받았다. 킹스컬리지 재학시절부터 영국 음악계에서 두각을 나타내어 세계적인 클래식 레이블 DECCA에서 음반 발매하였으며, 유럽 순회 클래식 연주회는 물론 뮤지컬, 연극, 영화음악 작곡가로서 활동하고 있다. 이루마는 2001년 1집「Love Scene」으로 데뷔, 순수한 서정의 미를 수줍은 듯 고백하며 우리 곁을 찾아왔다. 같은 해 12월 2집「First Love」를 발표하여 서서히 그의 이름이 알려지기 시작함과 동시에 드라마 ‘겨울연가’에 그의 ‘When the love falls’가 삽입되면서 굉장한 반향을 일으켰다. 이후 영화 ‘오아시스’ 이미지 앨범「OASIS & YIRUMA」, 애니메이션 「강아지똥 O.S.T」 를 발표, 피아니스트뿐만 아니라 작곡가로서의 면모를 보여주었다. 그의 3집「From the yellow room」발표 이후 이루마는 한국 최고의 작곡가 겸 피아니스트로 자리를 확고히 하며 기록적인 앨범 판매량으로 주위를 놀라게 했다. 이후 스페셜 앨범 「Nocturnal Lights... YIRUMA began playing the piano at age 5 and moved to London, England at age 11 to study at The Purcell School of Music in London. He graduated as a composition major from Kings College of London University. His first album was released by DECCA, a prestigious classical music label while he was still studying at Kings College. During this time, he also performed a music tour throughout Europe and composed for musicals, film and theatre. YIRUMA performed at the 2002 MIDEM in Cannes, France. YIRUMA was the first Korean artist ever to be invited to perform at this world-renowned music festival. His albums were licensed for release across Europe and Asia.
